They appeared before the Piet Retief Magistrates court on Tuesday following their arrest on Monday in connection with the killing of Councillor Sbonelo Ntshangase and two other people. Walus was released on parole this morning by the Correctional Services Department Minister Ronald Lamola following an order by the Constitutional court two weeks ago. The 69-year-old Polish immigrant spent 25 years of his life in jail for killing SACP leader Chris Hani on 10 April 1993. An inquest docket has been opened by the North West police following a fatal pitbull attack in Mogwase near Rustenburg. It is alleged that a 39-year-old man jumped over a fence at a local tavern in the early hours of Saturday morning and got mauled to death by a pitbull. The department of Correctional Services says it is investigating circumstances that led to the stabbing of Chris Hani’s killer Janusz Walus. The department confirmed in a statement that Walus, who was stabbed by another inmate from the same housing unit, is in stable condition. A man arrested for allegedly killing his five month-old nephew with a spade in Kgakala Township in the North West was denied bail by the Leeudoringstad Magistrates Court on Tuesday. The state successfully opposed Lazarus Hambone’s bail application and the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) said in a statement that among other factors, Hambone is a parolee on a murder charge that he committed in 2011. Free State police have opened an inquest following the death of a three-year-old boy who was mauled to death by two pit bulls on Sunday morning in Welkom, Free State. According to police spokesperson Captain Steven Thakeli, the toddler was playing with his friends at his home in Heneman when the vicious dogs bit him. He died on the scene.
