The Impala Platinum in the North West has suspended operations after 11 workers died and more than 60 sustained injuries. This is after a cage fell down about 200 meters at 11 shaft. “It is with regret that Implats reports that a serious safety incident involving a winder rope occurred this afternoon (Monday) at our 11 Shaft operation at Impala Rustenburg in the North West. “This rope is connected to the personnel conveyance, which hoists employees up and down the shaft. The Premier Soccer League, PSL, will be observing a moment of silence for the late Orland Pirates Captain Papi Khomane. Khomane and his mother Rita, passed away following a car accident on their way to Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday morning. “The Premier Soccer League sends heartfelt condolences to the Khomane family, and the football community at large. A scuffle broke out between a prison warder and some of the accused in the Senzo Meyiwa trial at the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria. This after the prison warder, who introduced himself as Vusi Jele in court when asked by presiding Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng, tried to reprimand some of the accused not to sit on top of the court’s benches. Cricket South Africa has appointed Laura Wolvaardt as the Protea women’s permanent captain for all three formats of the game. Wolvaardt takes over the reins after a successful tenure as interim captain, where she led the team in back-to-back ODI series victories against New Zealand and the T20I series against Pakistan. Former Paralympian Oscar Pistorius has been granted parole effective from 5 January 2023. This was confirmed by the Department of Correctional Services on Friday. This after Thuja Capital CEO Mthunzi Mdwaba made damning allegations that Nxesi, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana, Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande and ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula, allegedly demanded a R500 million bribe from him. President Cyril Ramaphosa has welcomed the announcement by the State of Qatar that a four-day humanitarian pause has been agreed in the conflict in Gaza. In a statement, the President commended the State of Qatar, the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United States of America on mediation efforts that will enable the release of Palestinian detainees and Israeli hostages.
