The Department of Water and Sanitation has opened five sluice gates at the Vaal Dam at hourly intervals, following heavy rains in the area. According to the department, the gates were opened at intervals from 10:00 until 13:00, increasing the water outflows from 60 cubic metres per second (mᵌ/s) to 700 mᵌ/s. The department said it also increased the outflows of the Bloemhof Dam 120 to 250 mᵌ/s at 10:00, and to 400 mᵌ/s at 14:00. The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) has warned the public against the purchase and use of GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) products that are being promoted and sold on various social media platforms. Firefighters from the Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) have successfully extinguished a blaze that broke out at the Ferndale Office Park in Randburg. EMS spokesperson Xolile Khumalo said emergency crews responded to reports of a fire at around 5:30pm at the office park, located on the corner of West Avenue and Oxford Roads. “The fire caused the roof of the building to collapse, resulting in significant structural damage. The fire has since been contained, and no further spread is expected,” Khumalo said. The Department of Transport has postponed the implementation of the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (AARTO) to 1st of July 2026. The African National Congress (ANC) has rejected a request by suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu to voluntarily step aside from all party activities. The party said Mchunu, who serves on its National Executive Committee (NEC), may only step aside once he has been criminally charged. Mchunu was placed on a leave of absence in July by President Cyril Ramaphosa following explosive allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
