The department said these incidents of food poising have disrupted teaching and learning as most of the cases affected learners during school hours. The suspected mastermind behind the R4 billion diamond scam Louis Liebenberg and his wife, Desiree, have abandoned their bail application when they made their first appearance at the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrates Court. The African National Congress (ANC) in the North West, has condemned Monday’s chaos at the Moses Kotane Local Municipality in Mogwase, where the Speaker, Gugu Mtshali, was forcefully removed from the council chambers. In a series of videos which have since gone viral on social media, Mtshali and some community members are seen being dragged from the chamber by bouncers. Nine suspects have been arrested in dealing with unpolished diamonds and fraud worth R4 billion in Gauteng and North West provinces respectively. Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube said the department is ready to administer the 2024 matric exams which started today. Her comments come as 727,121 full-time and 155,215 part-time candidates will sit for the GDE matric exam, while 16,400 learners will write Independent Examinations Board.
