A 36-year-old woman patient who was admitted at Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital in Ga-Rankuwa, was found dead in a bathroom hanging by a cellphone charger cable on Monday. A multiple-shack fire has claimed the life of a pregnant woman and left over 2 000 people displaced and over 800 destroyed at the Cemetery View informal settlement in Woodlake Street, Pretorius Park in Tshwane. One person has died in Howick, KwaZulu-Natal, after he collapsed at the Merrivale shopping center after he was exposed to severe cold overnight while in a taxi stuck in traffic in the snow on the N3. The corruption case against fugitive and Eskom contractor, Michael Lomas, has been postponed to 27 September 2024 by the Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court for formal bail application. Lomas is facing 65 counts of corruption linked to the R1,4 billion that was meant for the upgrade of Eskom’s Kusile power station in Mpumalanga between 2014 and 2017. He was extradited from the United Kingdom and arrived this morning wheelchair bound at the O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg under heavy police guard. The Johannesburg High Court has sentenced Sifiso Mkhwanazi to six life terms plus 170 years in prison for the murder and rape of six sex workers in Johannesburg. The 21-year-old Mkhwanazi was convicted of six counts of murder, six counts of rape, six of murder, six of defeating the ends of justice, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well as theft. President Cyril Ramaphosa has noted the extension of the transitional period of the Government of the Republic of South Sudan by another two years. The extension postpones the national elections initially due to take place on 22 December 2024.
