The Pretoria High Court sitting in Palm Ridge has sentenced Ekurhuleni serial rapist Nkosinathi Phakathi to 42 life terms and 791 years and 6 months direct imprisonment. The charges include rape, sexual assault, kidnapping, compelling or causing a child to witness a sexual act and theft. Social Development Minister Sisisi Tolashe has expressed concern about the high rate of alcohol consumption in the country. According to studies, over the past 10 years, South Africa has seen one of the highest rates of alcohol consumption globally and alcohol consumption per capita in the country has risen. The Minister’s comments come as she would today commemorate World No Alcohol Day in Mgungundlovu, KwaZulu-Natal. Renowned gospel artist Solly Moholo has passed away at a Rustenburg hospital in the North West. This was confirmed by his management team in a statement. Moholo, whose real name is Solomon Molokoane, was 65 years old. “It is with great sadness that we are informing you on behalf of the Molokoane family, that is Solly Moholo’s family, that our beloved legend ‘Solly Moholo’ has sadly passed on. Police in Phokeng, North West, are investigating two malicious damage to property incidents following the torching of 23 buses at two Bojanala Bus depots. According to the police, the incidents were reported in the early hours of Tuesday. “It is alleged that six buses at the Bojanala Bus Depot at Chaneng and a further 17 buses at Tlaseng were set on fire. The damages to both incidents are estimated at R69 million. The buses burnt to ashes,” said provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Adéle Myburgh. The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources has announced fuel price decreases that will kick on Wednesday. This is the fifth consecutive price drop since May. “Petrol 93 Octane petrol will decrease by R 1.06 per litre. 95 Octane will decrease by R1.14 per litre. Diesel will decrease by R1.12 and R1.14 per litre. Illuminating paraffin at retail level will decrease by R1.48 per litre whilst LP gas will increase by 23 cents per kilogram,” said the department’s Director of fuel pricing, Robert Maake. A 21-year-old South African woman was arrested at the OR Tambo International Airport, for alleged drug trafficking, after drugs were found in her stomach. This is the eleventh drug mule to be arrested at ORTIA in a period of two months.
