The Pretoria High Court sitting in Palm Ridge has sentenced Ekurhuleni serial rapist Nkosinathi Phakathi to 42 life terms and 791 years and 6 months direct imprisonment. The charges include rape, sexual assault, kidnapping, compelling or causing a child to witness a sexual act and theft. The court also ordered that the 40-year-old Phakathi be declared unfit to possess a firearm, and his name be added on the National Register for Sexual Offenders and the National Child Protection Register. Police in Phokeng, North West, are investigating two malicious damage to property incidents following the torching of 23 buses at two Bojanala Bus depots. According to the police, the incidents were reported in the early hours of Tuesday. “It is alleged that six buses at the Bojanala Bus Depot at Chaneng and a further 17 buses at Tlaseng were set on fire. The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources has announced fuel price decreases that will kick on Wednesday. This is the fifth consecutive price drop since May. “Petrol 93 Octane petrol will decrease by R 1.06 per litre. 95 Octane will decrease by R1.14 per litre. Diesel will decrease by R1.12 and R1.14 per litre. Illuminating paraffin at retail level will decrease by R1.48 per litre whilst LP gas will increase by 23 cents per kilogram,” said the department’s Director of fuel pricing, Robert Maake.
