The South African Revenue Services (SARS) said it has already paid out about R10 billion in refunds to at least 1.6 million taxpayers who were auto-assessed ahead of this year’s Tax Season. President Cyril Ramaphosa has warned that the current adverse weather conditions, have a negative impact on the country’s economy. His comments come after storms hit parts KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape and Western Cape over the past week, causing devastation to homes, communities, businesses and infrastructure. The former Director General of the Department of Treasury, Dongo Mogajane, has dismissed as baseless allegations that he received R1 million to withdraw a letter instructing municipalities to stop depositing monies into the now defunct VBS Mutual Bank. Twelve learners and a mini-bus driver have died when their private scholar transport was involved in an accident in the Kokosi-Wedela area near Carletonville this morning. This after a 43-year-old Spanish tourist was on Sunday trampled to death by an elephant at the Pilanesberg National Park, after he disembarked his vehicle to try to take pictures with a herd of elephants. The corruption and money laundering case against former speaker of National Assembly, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, has been transferred to the Pretoria High Court to 16 October 2024 for pre-trial conference. This as she appeared before the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court today, where the state served her with an indictment to prepare for the high court proceedings.
