Build One South Africa (Bosa) leader Mmusi Maimane has joined calls for former Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter to name and shame the politicians he implicated in the looting of funds at the power utility.
Maimane laid a criminal complaint on Monday at the Cape Town Police Station in connection with the alleged looting by ANC leaders at Eskom that de Ruyter implicated in his explosive television interviews last week.
He wants to compel authorities to get de Ruyter to share the details of corruption allegations he made against senior government employees and politicians.
de Ruyter alleged in a TV interview last week that the cash-scraped entity is fraught with political interference and corruption, noting that the ruling party is using Eskom as a “feeding through” and estimated that at least R1 billion is stolen from the power utility monthly.
Speaking to journalists outside the police station, Maimane said de Ruyter must reveal the identity of the high-ranking ANC politicians and Cabinet ministers he speaks about.
Maimane’s Bosa is not the only party that is challenging de Ruyter to name and shame those responsible for looting at Eskom. The ruling party also issued a statement on Sunday challenging the former CEO to back his claims by laying criminal charges within the next seven days against those he believes to be behaving unlawfully.
“We reiterate our call to Mr. de Ruyter to lay criminal charges, with verifiable details about his serious allegations, to allow law enforcement agencies to investigate, and where appropriate, to prosecute those who have a case to answer,” said The ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri.
The party has threatened to file charges against de Ruyter for contravening Section 34 if the seven days lapse without a case being opened.
De Ruyter left the utility last week following the TV interview that angered the Eskom board which accused him of bringing the organisation into disrepute. While his boss, Public Enterprise Minister Pravin Gordhan felt betrayed by De Ruyter’s utterances saying he supported him for three years while some people were attacking him.
