The United States has intensified its military campaign against Iran after launching another wave of airstrikes targeting sites linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), following the deaths of two American soldiers in Jordan.
According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), Sunday’s operation marked the eighth consecutive night of strikes against Iranian-linked targets. The military said the campaign is aimed at degrading Iran’s ability to carry out attacks against US personnel and protecting vital maritime trade routes in the Strait of Hormuz.
The latest escalation comes after two American service members were killed in a missile and drone attack in Jordan, which Washington attributes to Iranian-backed forces. The incident has prompted a swift military response from the United States, with President Donald Trump authorising continued operations against Iranian military infrastructure.
US officials said the strikes are intended to deter further attacks on American forces deployed across the Middle East while maintaining freedom of navigation through one of the world’s busiest oil shipping lanes.
The sustained military campaign has raised concerns of a wider regional conflict, with analysts warning that continued retaliation between Washington and Tehran could further destabilise the Middle East. International leaders are closely monitoring the situation amid growing fears that the confrontation could have significant implications for regional security and global energy markets.
The Pentagon has not released updated casualty figures or confirmed the extent of the damage caused by the latest strikes. Iran has also not issued a detailed response to the newest round of military action.
