While the Israeli army claimed it had targeted Hamas militants, Hamas and the Palestinian Authority said that Israeli strikes on a center for displaced people near the southern city of Rafah on Sunday resulted in the deaths of several dozen people.
The strikes “claimed the lives of 35 martyrs and left dozens injured, most of them children and women,” according to a statement released by the health ministry in the territory controlled by Hamas.
It also stated that it was “aware of reports indicating that several civilians in the area were harmed as a result of the strike and fire that was ignited. “The event is being investigated.”
According to the Israeli army, at least eight rockets were fired from Rafah on Sunday at the country’s center, striking Tel Aviv, the nation’s commercial center, for the first time in several months.
The epicenter of fighting has been Rafah, where the Israeli military began a ground offensive in early May in spite of strong opposition due to worries about the people who were seeking cover there.
The majority of Gaza’s hospitals are now closed, and the UN has issued a hunger warning due to impending starvation.
The ICC prosecutor announced last Monday that he was requesting arrest warrants for three prominent Hamas members, Netanyahu, and his defense minister.
Furthermore, Israel was directed by the UN’s International Court of Justice to cease all operations in Rafah that would result in “the physical destruction” of Palestinians on Friday.
