The North West leadership of the Umkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) has denied rumours that they are unable to access their provincial offices in Mahikeng because they have not paid rent for up to four months. Social media platforms have been circulating claims that the party is bankrupt and unable to cover the rent for its Mahikeng-based North West Provincial offices. Tebogo Ramashilabele, the provincial convenor of the MK Party, told Newsnote that the offices had been closed earlier in December for the holidays.

“We closed offices on the 13th of December 2024, when we were preparing to attend the Party’s first anniversary (that was held at the Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban in KwaZulu Natal) and for the festive season holidays, where I am, I know that the December month because of the ups and downs and so forth could be the month that the National office is busy sorting out its payment but as for the issue that has been circulating (on social media platforms) that the offices of MK were closed because we failed to pay rent in four months is not correct,” said Ramashilabele.

He says the reports are made by rumour mongers who wouldn’t even prove their claims if taken to task.

“What is going around is just tinting the imaging and the integrity of Umkhonto weSizwe of which as the leadership of the province we are not going to allow it, that people have to raise issues which are not founded, people are raising issues to come up with propaganda as if there’s dysfunctionality of the umKhonto weSizwe in the North West.”

He says all staff members are expected to return to work from next Thursday – Monday, (16 – 20th of January 2025) from the festive season holidays.
