Deputy President Paul Mashatile is expected to face tough questions from members of Parliament on Thursday in his maiden address following the departure of his predecessor David Mabuza.
Among others, Mashatile who was sworn in a few weeks ago, is expected to reply to oral questions relating to the country’s energy crisis and the municipal debt owed to Eskom.
The power utility is still failing to keep the lights on even after the appointment of the Minister of Electricity Kgosientso Ramokgopa and Eskom’s bailout amounting to R254 billion announced at the recent budget speech by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwane.
Ramokgopa is this week visiting power stations in his quest to deal with load shedding and end the rolling blackout outs that have crippled the economy.
President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala Farm saga is among the list of questions the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) will be posing to Mashatile.
This comes a day after Parliament rejected another motion on the ad hoc committee to investigate the alleged theft at the President’s farm.
African National Congress (ANC) members have argued against establishing this committee saying law enforcement agencies were still busy with that work.
