The Gauteng Health Department has revealed that its internal investigation has cleared the Westbury Clinic in Johannesburg of any wrongdoing in the case of an expectant mother’s death.
The inquiry into the death of 32-year-old Miriam Singh concluded that her pre-existing medical condition was the main factor contributing to her demise. Singh died less than an hour after being admitted to the clinic on Sunday.
On Tuesday, local residents assembled outside the clinic to seek answers about the situation.
Department spokesperson Motaletale Modiba remarked, “The internal report found that the healthcare personnel followed the necessary protocols during the incident. The postmortem examination showed that the patient had a significant underlying condition that caused a swift deterioration in her health shortly after her arrival at our facility.”
“Due to the confidentiality of doctor-patient communications, the department is unable to provide specific details about the patient’s medical condition. However, this information has been shared with the family involved.”
