Eskom has ramped up power outages by implementing stage 6 load shedding from 4 pm this afternoon until 5 am on Thursday when stage 5 kicks in.   In a statement, the embattled power utility said the pattern will be repeated daily until further notice. According to Eskom, this is due to a shortage in generation capacity while two generation units were returned to service at Kriel Power Station over the past 24 hours, a generating unit at Duvha Power Station was taken offline for repairs. The Limpopo provincial department has reported a high visibility of traffic officials as the province gears up for a busy Easter weekend. The department said speed operations to curb infringements and encourage good driver behaviour on the roads are underway. Transport spokesperson Tidimalo Chuene said the department is sufficiently braced for high traffic volumes expected in the province over the next few days. “Law enforcement officers will be working around the clock between April 6-10 to maximise visibility and aid the flow of traffic, especially on critical routes prone to congestion,” she said. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said it welcomed the four life prison terms given to a  20- year- old KwaZulu Natal man for raping four young boys.  On Friday, the Pietermaritzburg Regional court sentenced the man whose identity was not revealed to protect the victims who are between the ages of four and eight after he pleaded guilty to the crimes committed in May 2021 in the Imbali area. Zandile Mafe, the Cape Town man who was arrested and imprisoned for allegedly setting the National Assembly building on fire, will be admitted to a mental health institution in the Eastern Cape in April. The water and electricity crisis is expected to continue in Rustenburg as municipal vehicles that are used to respond to basic service delivery needs like repairing of water and sewage leaks, electricity blackouts and refuse collection, have run out of fuel.
