A 26-year-old woman who was arrested and charged with public indecency this week in Brits, North West has been sent for a mental evaluation. The woman from Oukasie township was arrested on Tuesday for walking naked in town on Valentine’s Day and she appeared in the Brits Magistrates Court on Wednesday where she was sent to a mental institution. A police task team has been set up to track, trace, and arrest culprits involved in recent mass shootings in the Eastern Cape. Ten people were killed in two separate incidents on Wednesday night in the province. According to the provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, in the first incident in the Thantseka Village in Bityi, unknown suspects shot and killed a 62-year-old woman, her daughter (44) and her 13-year-old grandson. Four suspects who were involved in a shootout with North West Police after a Cash In transit Heist on Monday, are fighting for their lives under police guard in hospital. The 39-old police woman charged with raping her son, will remain in custody until her next court appearance on Thursday. The woman who was not identified to protect the victim’s identity appeared in the Mdujane Magistrates Court on Monday following her arrest a week ago on charges including rape, sexual grooming, and creating and distributing pornographic material after she appeared in a video that went viral on social media. The North West department of Transport has confirmed that five people were killed in twoseparate crashes on Saturday morning. According to the department, a female pedestrian was fatally knocked down by a vehicle around 01 am on the N12 outside Wolmaransstad. It is alleged that the vehicle was then hit from behind by another one following it in the same direction. Pre-trial hearing Zandile Mafe, arrested for allegedly burning the National Assembly chambers in 2022 has been postponed to February after he failed to arrive at the Western Cape High Court on Friday. Prosecutor Mervyn Menigo told the court that Mafe (50) who has been in police custody since his arrest in January last year, refused to leave his Pollsmoor Prison cell again. The family of a teenage boy in Lefaragatlhe near Rustenburg is pleading for the safe return of Tshiamo Masikane who went missing on 01 January 2023. Family spokesperson Thato Mabyane says 17-year-old Masikane left home to look for the phone that he lost on New Year’s Eve at a club when he went out with his friends.
