Heavy traffic has been recorded on major roads across the country, as holidaymakers return from the festive holidays. Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, as the weather service has warned that most parts of the country will continue to experience heavy rains, which might cause flooding and lead to slippery roads. The US law enforcement authorities are investigating what they described as terrorist attacks, following two incidents that have rocked the nation since the start of the new year. In the first incident, a 42-year-old former soldier, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, rammed his van into a crowd of revellers on Bourbon Street, New Orleans, killing at least 15 people and injuring dozens more on New Year’s Day. Today marks exactly three years since the National Assembly and nearby buildings were gutted by fire. It took hundreds of fire emergency teams three days to completely extinguish the fire. The destruction forced parliament to find alternative venues for the joint sitting of the two Houses for the State of the Nation Address and National Assembly sittings. Almost two days after firing Eric Tinkler as their coach, Cape Town City has hired Muhsin Ertugral as their new Technical Director. Government is appealing to the public to report sexual offences against children to the South African Police Services (SAPS) for swift and decisive action in bringing perpetrators thereof to justice. It said this will help address statutory rape and its contribution to high teenage pregnancy rates.
