The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety has intensified its efforts to tackle overloaded vehicles in the province’s roads, through Operation Malaisha. The department said the aim of the operation is to target minibus taxis, light delivery vans, and bakkies towing trailers, commonly known as “Malaisha.” “These vehicles are mostly found on the N1 road, stretching from Pienaarsrivier in the Waterberg District to the Beitbridge Border Post in Musina, Vhembe District. Rand Water has said it has completed its 86-hour maintenance at the Eikenhof Maintenance Project. The entity however said that while pumping to its reservoirs resumed on Monday, it will take a while before water reaches the residents taps. “Residents are reminded that the system will take time to recover. Twenty-seven teenage boys who recently resurfaced from an abandoned mine in Stilfontein, near Klerksdorp, were repatriated to their home country of Mozambique on Tuesday. A five-year-old girl who was born at a prison in Port Louis, Mauritius to a South African mother, has been successfully repatriated to the country by the officials from the Department of Social Development. The mother was arrested in Mauritius while she was pregnant with the child in 2019 and is still awaiting trial.
