Four suspected armed robbers were fatally wounded and another suspect was injured and arrested during a crime intelligence-driven operation in Yeoville, Johannesburg, early on Wednesday morning. A female lawyer has been shot dead in the Johannesburg CBD after she was attacked while on her way to work on Monday morning. The incident occurred at the corner of Fox and Joubert streets near Gandhi Square at around 9am. Eyewitnesses told Newsnote that the woman was shot three times, including in the head. Transport Minister Barbara Creecy has launched the 2026 Easter Road Safety Campaign, reporting a significant decline in road crashes and fatalities, while raising concern about the high number of pedestrian deaths on South Africa’s roads.
