Newly elected Executive Mayor of Bojanala Platinum District Municipality, Magdeline Matlakala Nondzaba, has promised to eradicate poverty and crime. She was elected at the first council meeting on Tuesday at the Rustenburg Civic Centre.

Nondzaba said she will ensure that residents of Bojanala are provided with service delivery.

“I will ensure that we intensify our oversight role, to ensure that the frontier of poverty, unemployment, shortage of water and proper sanitation, lack of reliable electricity and lack of environment are pushed backwards,” she said.

The new Executive Mayor has thanked the ANC for entrusting her with the responsibility of ensuring that the municipality is enjoyable for people to reside in. She added that together with the elected councillors, they will strive to move Bojanala Platinum District Municipality forward.

Meanwhile, newly elected Speaker Tumelo Lucky Madiba, also added his voice. Madiba was elected on Tuesday with 45 votes against the DA’s Nkateko Stephina Mabunda who received 23 votes.

Madiba said council will implement a programme of promoting gender equality jointly with various stakeholders, including the South African Human Rights Commission, the Justice Department and the Office of the Premier.

Chief Whip, Louis Diremelo, was elected unopposed and also thanked ANC members for believing in him.
