The City of Tshwane has sought to assure residents that the President Steyn Bridge in Pretoria North is safe and intact. This after a video taken by one of the residents went viral on social media showing cuts on the bottom pillars of the bridge, with a warning of a potential disaster. Johannesburg City Power has extended the grace period for non-payment of penalty fees to 30 November 2024, beyond the 24 November deadline for prepaid electricity customers to re-code their meters. The Gauteng Health Department has sought to assure residents that no patient or staff members at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria were harmed when a fire broke out at one of the wards. South Africa has welcomed International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrants issued for Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Minister of Defence Yoav Gallant, and Hamas leader, Mohammed Deif. According to a statement from the ICC, the arrest warrants are for alleged war crimes relating to the war in Gaza. The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has decided to cut the repo rate by 25 basis points. The repo rate now sits at 7.75% while the prime lending rate will now be 11.25%. The announcement was made by SARB Governor, Lesetja Kganyago, in Pretoria, following the last meeting of the MPC this year. “The MPC decided to reduce the policy rate by 25 basis points, to 7.75%, with effect from November 22.
