City Power in Johannesburg said its engineers will today conduct test after an underground fire along the M1 highway near Smit Street and the double-decker section between Braamfontein substation and Fordsburg substation. The African National Congress (ANC) has summoned its former president Jacob Zuma to appear before party’s National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) next week Tuesday at Luthuli House in Johannesburg. The Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) and City Power said the fire that gutted underground cables along the M1 near the north double-decker section, has been contained. The fire forced the closure of the double-decker highway and parts of Empire Road, causing traffic chaos that extended beyond the CBD. President Cyril Ramaphosa said he is deeply saddened by the passing of black-business pioneer and co-founder of the National African Federated Chamber of Commerce (NAFCOC) Dr Sam Motsuenyane at the age of 97. The Department of Sport and the Boxing fraternity have expressed deep sorrow following the passing of former world champion, Dingaan Thobela. Thobela, who was affectionately known as The Rose of Soweto, passed away on Tuesday at his Mayfair, Johannesburg. In his professional career which spanned from 1986 until 2006, Thobela was a multiple world boxing champion, having won the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight, and World Boxing Council (WBC) super-middleweight titles. The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy has announced that petrol prices will increase from Tuesday midnight, while diesel prices will decrease. The Department said the adjustment of fuel prices is based on current local and international factors and will take effect from the 1st of May. “Petrol both grades will increase by 37 cents per litre, diesel will decrease by 30 and 36 cents a litre and illuminating paraffin will go decrease by 25 cents a litre at retail level.
